As we embrace this new term of sewing, we get used to the darker afternoons and get reacquainted with our cold weather wardrobes we want to offer a massive thank you for sewing with us this autumn. It was especially lovely seeing so many of you brave Storm Amy in your me-mades to join us at Vitello Lounge to celebrate our 15th anniversary few weeks ago.
We loved having the time and space to chat about all sorts of things, and swap me-made stories. We even made it into The Ilkley Gazette and Ilkley Chat!
Embracing the sewing journey!
We want to extend an extra warm congratulations to all the new students who’ve joined us this term.
We’ve loved welcoming you into The Sewing Shed and hope you’re finishing the term with a sense of achievement. Wearing a garment you’ve made with your own hands is a fabulous feeling isn’t it!
We’ve loved seeing you getting stuck in with energy and enthusiasm making your pyjama pants as well as persevering when things have got a little tricky. We hope there have also been plenty of punch the air moments when things have fallen into place. As tutor Becky Downes-Davies said in a tutor group chat the other day:
‘We’ve been talking a lot about just jumping in and having a go. We’ve been talking about not feeling disheartened about mistakes or having to ask the same question over and over. It’s a journey and mistakes happen. We’ve all made them, mostly me!! It’s how you learn though, so just dive in and ask away!’
Our sewing classes are open to sewers of all abilities, no matter their experience or starting point. We also understand that if you’re new to sewing and The Sewing Shed it can be daunting walking in that first time, meeting new people and wrapping your head around the equipment and terminology.
It’s why we group beginners together in some classes (Wednesday and Thursday evening & Friday Morning) so that you can learn and grow your sewing confidence alongside each other.
It’s also worth remembering that we all have those moments, no matter how long we’ve been sewing. Sometimes a pattern doesn’t quite go to plan or fabric misbehaves, and before we know it our brow is furrowed, and our heads have switched into problem solving mode whilst trying not to get too frustrated.
We hope though that with the support of our tutors and your fellow sewers you will always find a way through (before too long) can carry on smiling and with a feeling of pride too.
We’ll keep you sewing until Christmas
Booking is now open for our November term with classes beginning Monday 10th November and taking you all the way up to Christmas. There’s still some availability across the week but classes are booking up quickly. To book or check live availability visit our online shop.
Many thanks as always for sewing with us at The Sewing Shed, we’re looking forward to sewing with you again after the break.
