patchwork & quilting with Denise

Create a beautiful quilt from scratch under the expert tuition of Denise. Working in small groups and at your own pace you will create a machine sewn quilt with patchwork blocks the size of a play-mat, single sized bed or larger, if you wish. With no more than ten students in the class, you’ll be assured plenty of personal tuition and support from Denise, our tutor and the others in the class.

From complete beginners to students wanting to improve their patchwork skills and build their knowledge and experience.

what will I learn?

This Patchwork course teaches machine patchwork and quilting and will cover techniques including:

Rotary cutting

Strip piecing

Applique

Bias making

Half square and quarter square triangles

Foundation piercing

Stained glass patchwork

This list isn’t exhaustive, and it can be led by the student.

what do I need to bring?

Bring your own fabric and materials and we’ll send you a suggested shopping list once you’ve booked your place. Don’t forget your packed lunch unfortunately at this time we are unable to supply drinks, we request you bring your own flask.

what equipment is supplied?

One Janome sewing machine for each student. Bring your basic sewing kit and thread. Normally we would say that there’s no need to buy specialist quilting equipment before the course and you can borrow this during the class, however at the current time new students can contact the tutor directly to ask what you need. Cutting mats can be shared and will be wiped down in between students.

when are the classes?

We run this as an annual course of ten dates which is held on every last Saturday and last Sunday of the month from 10am – 4pm with one or two variations ( so please check your diary). Due to the nature of the classes it is structured as a course and it is anticipated that you attend every month. Please note you attend the same day every month so always attend on a Saturday or always attend on a Sunday as we have limited space and availability.
